12 Best Indoor Plants for Delhi NCR Flats (Low Light, AC and Dust)

An apartment in Noida, Gurugram or Delhi is a tough place for a plant. Rooms can be dim, air conditioning runs for eight months, winter air is dry, and dust settles on every leaf. The good news: plenty of plants handle all of this. The key is choosing by light first.
First, check how much light you really have
- Low light: a room or corner more than 2–3 metres from a window, or a north-facing room. You can read comfortably but there is no sunlight patch.
- Medium light: near a window that gets no direct sun, or bright shade on a covered balcony.
- Bright light: close to an east or west window, with some direct sun for part of the day.
Best plants for low light
- ZZ plant — glossy, upright, needs water only every 2–3 weeks. The Raven ZZ has near-black leaves.
- Snake plant — handles low light and neglect; perfect for bedrooms.
- Aglaonema — the green-silver types tolerate lower light than the pink and red ones.
- Golden pothos — trails from shelves, grows even under tube lights.
Best plants for medium light
- Peace lily — flowers indoors and droops to tell you when it is thirsty.
- Heart-leaf philodendron — fast-growing and forgiving.
- Syngonium — compact, comes in green and pink.
- Spider plant — easy, pet-safe and produces baby plants.
- Dracaena marginata — tall and slim for corners.
Best plants for bright rooms
- Areca palm — a soft, tropical look for living rooms.
- Rubber plant — bold leaves that grow into a small tree.
- Monstera — the split-leaf favourite; needs space to spread.

Dealing with AC
Air conditioning does two things plants dislike: it blows cold, dry air directly on leaves, and it lowers humidity. Keep plants at least 1–2 metres from the AC outlet, never directly under it. Grouping plants together raises humidity around them, and a tray of pebbles with water under the pots helps in winter.
Dust: the NCR problem nobody mentions
A layer of dust on leaves blocks light and slows growth. Every two weeks, wipe large leaves with a soft damp cloth, and give smaller plants a gentle shower. Do not use leaf-shine sprays; they clog the leaf surface.

Yes, if they are kept out of the direct airflow and watered a little less often. ZZ, snake plant, aglaonema and pothos handle AC rooms well.
